My goal with this work is to entice people to contemplate both nature and human skill and intenuity. Interaction with functional objects can help to trigger the engagement that I wish to foster.
Our sculptures are intended to remind people of rejuvenating experiences at the shore or in the forest. Beyond this, those that encounter our work may consider how ancient these natural living forms are. This can help expand the context that we consider ourselves in. The forms express intriguing patterns. These patterns are rich in metaphors for the ways that we grow, and share features with mathematical structures found in music and a proof of infinity. I am grateful to have found a way to put nature forward in the work that I do, 2013-09-11T12:57:23-04:00 CenturyHouse Pottery and Gallery Mieke Martin Soontiens http://www.chesterartisans.ca/directory/47-centuryhouse-pottery-and-gallery I studied Ceramics at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario from 1978 until 1981. since then I have been a fulltime studio potter.

Excellent craftsmanship, a love for textural decoration and the potential of clay have always been for most in my mind. I believe in developing an infallible technique then allowing inspiration to complete the process of creation.

When I opened my first studio in 1981 it was mostly production pottery, platters, bowls, teapots, mugs etc. I also enjoyed exploring the potential of clay, these explorations have resulted in many one of a kind sculptures for home and garden.

Clay is the most common material in the world, you dig it from the ground and make beautiful things with it. It will always hold fascination for me, I will push to see how far I can take it. I will struggle with disappointments and enjoy successes. 2013-09-11T10:13:34-04:00 Chester Art Centre Chester Art Centre http://www.chesterartisans.ca/directory/63-chester-art-centre The Chester Art Centre offers a varied and experiential range of classes and workshops for children and adults in a classic Chester cottage which features a main floor exhibition space and classroom, a full kitchen; the upstairs is the Art Centre office.
