Ted Barrett was born in London, England and emigrated to Canada in 1968. He lived in Ted Toronto for several years,cf1 then shortly after his marriage in 1972 he moved to Nova Scotia.
He started out with courses from Ron Goodwin, noted Maritime artist, then was invited to join the Artists' Circle in Greenwood. He was elected President of the Artists' Circle (AC) and served in that capacity for 2 years. Prior to that he was treasurer of AC for 3 years. Since joining the AC in 1974 he has had workshops ranging from watercolour to oil and everything in between from many other professional maritime artists. 2003 was his 7th and last year participating in the popular "Paint The Town" in Annapolis royal.
Ted and his artist wife, Barbara have had 2 two-person shows in the Middleton Hospital Art Gallery. In 1989 Ted won the First Prize in oil painting at the well-known Apple Blossom Festival of Art, and in 1992 won Second Prize for his watercolour. He also won a 1st in portraits at the Annapolis Exhibition in 2000 and a 2nd for his watercolour in the Apple Blossom Art in 2002. Ted has paintings hanging in private collections in Canada, the US, England, Europe and Australia.
Ted says: "I grew up in a place that was gray and colourless most of the time. My paintings reflect the enjoyment I get from the light and colour of the landscape of Nova Scotia, and the changing moods of the surrounding sea".
